What Will You Choose?

Here I sat trying to figure out how so much had gone wrong so quickly and the worst part was that there was nothing I could do to fix either situation. Sickness had attacked two of the most important people in this world to me. I could never begin to describe the amount of hopelessness that I felt and how discouraged I sometimes became with these situations.

I find that many times in our life that situations can spiral out of our control and we just dont know where to turn. As I was sitting and praying one day I heard the Lord speak to my heart and simply say, Be still and know that I am God. I can never tell you the peace that immediately came over me with the reminder from Pslams that he always has my back even when I feel alone. In Deuteronomy 31:6 the word says, Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. The enemy wants us to walk around discouraged and afraid all the time and become paralyzed by hopelessness and believe that there is no way to make it any better.

In my years as a financial planner I have found so many who feel exactly this way with their financial situation. Bills that have stacked up, plummeting credit scores, debt that has become unmanageable and fear of never being able to retire like they have always dreamed of are just a few of the things I have seen and heard from clients. Our God is a God of victory and not defeat. We are the head and not the tail. We can do all things through Christ who strengthen us. Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world! We are overcomers! If, we choose to be. I find that it is a choice. We can have victory over any situation in our life if we choose to and ask God for help. However, we must first make a choice of whether we are going to walk in victory or in defeat. It is a decision that we must make to choose to hold on to the promises of his Word and decide to have the faith knowing that He is God and knows what we need. If we always believe that things are going to go wrong, then guess what? They probably will. In Hebrews 10:23 it says, Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised. We must hold firm knowing that he is faithful, especially when things seem to be at their worst. No matter what your financial circumstance is today, there is a solution. How can I say this with so much certainty? Because the word of God says in Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. His plan is so much different for us than our plan and what the enemy whispers in our ear during turbulent times. We must just have faith and make sure that we are praying and listening for how to proceed.

I am happy to say that after a long 6 months that God brought a very special doctor into my wifes life that dug in and found the root of her problem and today she is in full recovery from her illness. My father had surgery this past Monday and is recovering at the hospital expecting to be released tomorrow with a great prognosis of living the rest of his days cancer free. Moral of the story? It all turned out OK. I just needed to have had a little more faith in my almighty God because he already knew the end of these stories before they even began. Just as he knows the end of all of our stories and situations that we are currently in. Now, I just wished I would have made better choices each day to have faith that he was going to take care of my beloved father and wife as it would have saved me from so much pain and suffering that I brought upon myself. The great thing is that tomorrow, I get to wake up and make that choice again, just hopefully wiser this time. What choice will you make? In Christs love! Rob
